BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – 14th March 2016

ST. PATRICK’S MASS TIMES: For the Feast of St. Patrick – our National
Apostle; The Vigil Mass on Wednesday will be celebrated at 7.30pm; and on
Thursday (St. Patrick’s Day) Masses will be celebrated at 9.30am and 11.00am
.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE: On Thursday the Parade will start from the
Grotto at 3.00pm and finish at the Community Centre. Assemble at 2.30pm
(sharp) at the Grotto. Come along and enjoy the fun.

COMMUNITY GAMES 2016: With our new year of events in full swing we are once
again delighted to announce all our success and participation to-date in
various events. Shauna Casey once again showed her talent in U-14 Art where
she received 1st place and another Gold Medal to her fine collection. Lisa
Kearney obtained a Bronze medal in the U-16 Art on the same day. Well done
to all our other representatives on the day, continue to practice for next
year’s events. Draughts was held last weekend in Listowel where we had 3
teams representing Ballyheigue. They did fantastic with both our U-10 and
U-14 teams getting 3rd place and our U-12 team who were Denis Lynch, Dara
Kearney, and Dara Donnelly, Dara 0’Fuairain, David O’Grady and Charlie
Fitzgerald won 1st place. These boys will go on to represent Kerry in the
Munsters. Training will continue for Soccer in the Community Centre on
Monday evening, €2 per child. The Community Games committee wish to send
our condolences to Mark O’Sullivan and his family on the recent passing of
his uncle Bob.

GAA LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn at last Sunday’s GAA Lotto:
11-18-19-27. The Jackpot of €2,900 was not won. Next week’s Jackpot will
be €2,950. The two €50 winners were: Isabella Casey, Bouleenshere and
Michael O’Hehir, Ballylongane. The €25 winner was Ted Healy, Cliff Road,
Ballyheigue.

GAELTACHT GRANT FORMS: The Secretary of the North Kerry Hurling Board, Joe
Walsh 087-6359959 has a limited number of Gaeltacht Grant forms at the
moment. To qualify for this grant the recipient must be a member of their
club.

REFEREES COURSE: The Kerry County Board will be running a training course
for new referees on the following dates: March 23rd 29th and 31st. All
clubs are asked to provide as many as possible. Venue location at a later
date. Contact any Club Officer.

GAA AGE TRAINING: for U-6, U-8 and U-10 will start next Saturday 19th at
11am. Any children who have not registered can do so on the morning.
Registration forms can be got in the Club Rooms. Only players who are
registered will receive text messages from the club. Weekly fee €2 per
child. Gum shields, hurleys and helmets required.

FIRST AID COURSE: The Ballyheigue GAA Club held a first aid course for
under-age coaches and mentors on Monday night in the Club Room. It was
well attended. The course was conducted by Patricia Casey.

FIXTURES: North Kerry Senior League – Ballyheigue v Lixnaw at John Joe
O’Sullivan Park this Saturday at 3.00pm.

KERRY HURLERS: The Kerry Senior hurlers were well beaten by Clare at Ennis
in the N.H.L. on Sunday. Philip Lucid was a member of the team. The Kerry
Minor hurlers were most unlucky to lose to Dublin in the Leinster League on
Saturday. Final score Kerry 1-10 Dublin 2-10. Conor Galway and Rory
McNamara were members of the team. John Healy was a selector.

COURSING LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn on Monday 7th March in
the Ballyheigue & District Coursing Club Lotto: 15-19-29-30. Jackpot was
not won. The €50 winner was Angie McElligott, C/o Pat. The €25 winners
were: Patrick Hanlon, C/o Diarmuid; Sean Foran and Catherine McCarthy, C/o
Macs. Next week’s Jackpot €3,550

KERRY HOSPICE FOUNDATION: The Annual Good Friday Walk will take place on
Friday 25th March starting at 11.00am from the Castle Gate. Sponsorship
cards are available from Mary Flahive on 087-2998438. Everyone welcome.

DEATH: The death took place during the week of Cathy Houlihan (neé Dunne),
Brandon and formerly of Glenderry, Ballyheigue. She is survived by her
brother Larry and sister Bridie. We offer sympathy to her extended family.
Burial was on Thursday 10th March in Cloghane. R.I.P.
