BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – 11th April 2016

COMMUNITY GAMES 2016: On Sunday April 3rd our U-13 girls Indoor Soccer
travelled to Milltown to play in the last 4 places in Kerry. Aoibhe
O’Halloran, Emma Woods, Melanie Dineen Higgins, Kate Kenny, Eve Roche
Hussey and Eilish Gaynor played really well but were unlucky to lose out on
medals. The girls along with coaches: Mark O’Sullivan and Jack Duggan were
very happy to receive their 4th place certificate. On Sunday last Mark and
Jack were again on the road with the U-13 boys Futsol team. Daniel
O’Loughlin, Eric Walsh, Muiris Harty, David O’Sullivan, Dara Kearney, Denis
Lynch, Oisin O’Regan and Felim O’Sullivan fought very hard in their 2 games
to bring 8 more Gold medals back to Ballyheigue. The boys will now go on to
the Munsters in July. The Community Games Committee wish to send our
condolences to our coach Mark O’Sullivan and his family on the recent death
of his Nan Mrs O’Sullivan, Ballyduff.

AN TÓCHAR DRAMA GROUP: Are back in action again, this time with two plays:
Geoffrey’s Wake is a quirky one-act comedy; while Remember Casement is a
documentary type act on the life of Roger Casement. Both plays will be
staged at An Tóchar Adult Education Centre, Causeway on Saturday 23rd and
Sunday 24thApril commencing at 7.30 pm. It promises to be a most
entertaining evening with two very different styles of drama. Booking is

AGM BALLYHEIGUE: The annual general meeting of Ballyheigue Social Economy
Enterprises Ltd. (Ballyheigue Community Centre) will be held on April 20th
at8.00pm at the Community Centre in Ballyheigue.

KERRY EARTH WEEK 2016: From April 17th- 23rd. If you would like to protect
our Earth to-day you can do so by planting autumn/winter flowering shrubs,
if you have flowering trees e.g. Alder, Crab Apple, if you are composting,
using plants native to your area, or even install a water butt to catch
rainfall and use it to water your garden. All these things are good.

GAA LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn at last Saturday’s GAA Lotto:
10-12-22-26. The Jackpot of €3,100 was not won. Next week’s Jackpot will
be €3,150. The two €50 winners were: Liam O’Carroll, Tiduff and Elizabeth
Duffy, C/o Taidhg. The €25 winner was Christy O’Mahony, Clahanebawn.

UNDER-14s HURLING & FOOTBALL: The Ballyheigue hurling and football teams
had good wins during the week. The Hurling team defeated St. Brendan’s on
Tuesday evening in the Co. League; score Ballyheigue 6-2 and St. Brendan’s
2-8. The Football team defeated K. O’Rahilly’ on Wednesday evening in the
Co. League; score Ballyheigue 5-6 and K O’Rahilly’s 4-7. Panel: Daniel

UNDER 16s: A very young U-16 hurling team made the long journey to Kenmare
on Thursday evening to play a strong Kenmare/Kilgarvan team. They gave a
great display, but came up just short. Final score: Ballyheigue 3-4 and
Kenmare/Kilgarvan 3-10.

UNDER 12s: The U-12 hurlers lost to Lixnaw on Friday evening in the Co.
League; score Ballyheigue 0-8 and Lixnaw 4-4.

SENIOR: The senior hurlers were defeated by Ballyduff on Saturday evening
in the Co. League. score: Ballyheigue 1-8 and Ballyduff 0-17.

COURSING LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn on Monday 4th April in
the Ballyheigue & District Coursing Lotto Club : 1-8-19-27. Jackpot was
not won. The €50 winner was Kitty Brennan. The €25 winners were: Michael
Casey, Roseanne Murphy, C/o Kitty and Aidan O’Mahony, C/o Macs. Next
week’s Jackpot €3,750.

DEATH: The death occurred of Mary Ann Hartnett (neé Kavanagh), Lower Main
Street, Ballyheigue. Reposing at Hartnett Funeral Home on Sunday 3rd April
2016followed by removal to St. Mary’s Church. Requiem Mass on Monday 4th April
in St. Mary’s Church, Ballyheigue and burial afterwards in the Holy Family
Cemetery RIP. Sadly missed by her loving family, daughters Eileen and
Marie, sons – Richard, John, Joseph, and Patrick, daughters-in-law,
son-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
sisters-in-law, relatives and friends.

PATRICK O’MAHONY TOURNAMENT: The Patrick O’Mahony Tournament will take
place the weekend of the 16th/17th April 2016. The tournament is its fifth
year honouring the memory of Ballyheigue and Kerry hurler Patrick
O’Mahony. Patrick passed to his eternal reward in 2010. He gave
outstanding leadership to his team and club, winning four senior county
championships as well as many other honours. There are four teams taking
part: Ballyheigue, Kilmoyley, St. Rynaghs (Offaly) and Dromin Athlacca (
Limerick).

The opening game of the tournament takes place on Saturday at 5.45pm between
Ballyheigue and Dromin Athlacca. This is followed at 7.15pm between
Kilmoyley versus St. Rynaghs. On Sunday 17th the losing teams from the
first day play Shield final and the winners will play in the tournament
final. The referees for the weekend are Mike Hennessy and Mike Joy from
Ballyduff.

BADMINTON – Big success this week with Lillian Holmes teaming up with James
O Mahony from Causeway to win the Munster Division 5 Mixed doubles title in
Limerick.

A great achievement to add to her County title which she won the previous
week.

Also competing in the Division 5 Men’s Doubles was Colum Carroll and Colm
Griffin but they had to settle for a very creditable fourth place.

On Monday the 17th we will have our final club tournament so everybody
please be in the hall for 8.15 so we can make the draw.
