BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – Michael Burkett
BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – 29-11-2016
“THE FIELD”: The staging of John B. Keane’s famous play “*The Field” *by
the Ballyheigue Community Players is causing a seasonal stir in the
cultural life of the parish. The handling of the production by their
artistic director, Fr. Tom Leane, brings forth lovely nuances of thought
and feeling embedded in the rural story. The way all the actors interpret
the story line shows the depth of talent which imbues the skilled cast,
while the casting of the same actors in the play is just perfect as they
embody the forces at work in the tragic tale. The final performance this
Friday 2nd Dec. at 8.00pm in the Centre is well worth seeing.
BOOK LAUNCH: The Heritage Group wishes to thank everyone for the
co-operation in making the recent launch of *Going Global for God* so
successful. Led by piper Danny Houlihan, a Guard of Honour, proceeded up
the street to the Community Centre, where the Apostolic Nuncio, the Bishop
and the Mayor of Kerry were received by a welcoming party.
Mayor, Cllr. Michael O’Shea gave a Civic Welcome to the Nuncio, Most Rev.
Archbishop Charles Brown, which was followed by a concert featuring the
Ardfert Singers and local and regional talent. A Ceremony of Candle
Lighting symbolised the input of the missionaries into the continents of
the world, and Tom Kennedy played ‘Abide with Me’ in their memory.
Following an illustrated talk the Papal Nuncio praised both the study and
global outreach of the missionaries.
Presentations of gifts, crafted by David Monson and Phil Casey, were made
on behalf of the community to the Nuncio, the Bishop and Mayor of Kerry.
The 520 page book, which contains a CD, is on sale in the local and

*EXPECT HELP – Poem*
I received a letter, recently, from a special lady. I have never met her,
or spoken to her. She writes regularly and sends gifts. This time she
sent me religious tracts to pass on; this I have done.
Her writing paper sported a Pre-Raphaelite picture. A gilded angelic
being; supporting a female with another female figure holding, or healing
her. The writing below it reads:-
‘Expect help, a Divine Power more magnificent than anything else
that exists on the planet is ready to support our every move’.
I could not help but dwell on this. Expect help. We pray, plead,
petition, but do we ever just expect help? So simple.
A Divine Power is ready to support our every move.
We make life so complicated, especially when things are not going too
well. We become overwhelmed by adverse human conditions; they are awesome
while they have a hold. But, like everything else, good and bad, they do,
eventually, pass away.
This help that we can expect comes from a Divine Power more magnificent
than anything else that exists on the planet. WOW!
When I feel vulnerable I am going to tell myself, “Expect Help”. The
positive thought will bring the help; the Divine is waiting, listening.
The religious cards my friend sent me have been passed on to others for
their enlightenment. I wonder if she realizes just how much the message on
her sheet of writing paper has touched me.
We never know how much we touch each others’ lives with a simple act of
kindness, or just a sheet of writing paper.
