BALLYHEIGUE NOTES 4.4.2017

BADMINTON: A good week for Kevin O’Mahony and Paula O’Sullivan when they
won the Div. 4 Mixed Doubles Plate competition

in Killarney recently. Last week we held our Annual end of year
Tournament where we invited members of the Causeway Club to join us.

Results – Winning team Patrick Corridon Capt., Brendan Carroll, Kathleen
Gilbride, Joe Carroll, Paraic Murray, and Lilian Holmes. Runners up: Kevin
O’Mahony Capt., Patsy O’Connor, Niall Hanlon, Sara Leahy, Josie Gilbert,
and Nick Critch.

Winners of the Round Robin were Ann Leahy and Runner up was Cindy Chen.

Just two more tournaments left – Masters over 40 in Killarney on
Friday 14th April
and Annascaul on Sunday 23rd April.

COMMUNITY GAMES 2017: Our U14 Draughts team travelled to UL last Sunday
for The Munster Finals and they did not fail to impress when they once
again won Gold for Kerry. This dynamic team have come up from U10 under the
guidance of Coach Terence Dineen and have put a massive effort in over the
years. All their hard work has once again insured Adam Dineen, David O’
Sullivan, Dara Kearney, Denis Lynch, Dara Donnelly, Oisin O’ Regan and
Charlie Fitzgerald will be travelling to the All Ireland finals this May in
Dublin. Massive congratulations to this team and we wish you the very best
with your upcoming training. Thanks to Terence and to the parents who
travelled on Sunday.

GAA LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn at last Sunday’s GAA Lotto: 5
19 23 27. The Jackpot of €5,550 was not won. Next week’s Jackpot will be
€5,600. The two €50 winners were – Margaret Flaherty, Tiershanahan and
Laura Dunne, Marian Park. The €25 winner was Tony Sheehy, Church Road,
Ballyheigue.

UNDER-14s FOOTBALL: The U-14 football team were defeated by Knock/Brosna on
Wednesday evening. Score Ballyheigue 4-2 and Knock/Brosna 5-12.

TRAINING: Training for U6, 8 & 10’s football and hurling has begun for the
summer. Time of training is between 11 & 12 every Saturday morning. €2 per
week. Thanks.

UNDER-16s HURLING: The U-16 hurlers had a good victory over St. Brendan’s
in the Co. League on Thursday evening. Final score Ballyheigue 2-10 and St
Brendan’s 0-13. They have won all their games to date and are through to
the Co. League Semi-final.

UNDER-12s HURLING: The Ballyheigue U-12 hurlers had a big win over Tralee
Parnells on Friday evening. Full time score Ballyheigue 5-13 Parnells 1-2.

FIXTURES: Co Under-14 football league Ballyheigue v Beaufort at Beaufort on
Wednesday evening at 7.00pm. Co Under-12s hurling league Ballyheigue v
Kilmoyley at John Joe O’Sullivan Park Friday evening 7.00pm. North Kerry
Minor hurling league Ballyheigue v Ballyduff at John Joe O’Sullivan Park on
Sunday morning at 11.30am. Co Under-12s football Ballyheigue v Scartaglin
at Scartaglin on Sunday evening at 6-00pm.

KERRY HURLERS: Hard luck on the Kerry Senior hurlers who lost by one point
in to Laoise in the N.H.L. at Portlaoise on Saturday evening after extra
time. They lost their Division 1B status and will compete in Division 2
next year. Final score after extra time Kerry 4-20 and Laoise 1-30.

PATRICK O’MAHONY TOURNAMENT: The annual Patrick O’Mahony Hurling
Tournament will take place on 29th and 30th April. Further details later.

PARISH CLEAN-UP: Our annual Parish Spring Clean-Up will take place on
Saturday 8th April between 10.00am and 2.00pm. Bags and pickers will be
available from the Post Office. Please secure the full-litter bags and
leave them at the side of the road for collection in the afternoon. An
opportunity to clean one’s own area of litter.

BEACH CLEAN-UP: There will be a beach clean-up on Good Friday. Hoping for
a large turnout to preserve this most glorious asset.

BALLHEIGUE COMMUNITY CENTRE: Karla our Chiropodist is back in Ballyheigue
Community Centre every Wednesday morning from 9.30am, no appointment needed.

FIRST-FRIDAY COMMUNION CALLS : To the elderly will take place on Thursday 6
th April and Friday 7th April beginning at 1.30pm. Please inform relatives
and friends.

DEATH: The death occurred during the week of Theresa Casey (neé
Harrington) Ballylongane, Ballyheigue. Reposing at Hartnett’s Funeral
Home on Tuesday 28th March followed by removal to St.Mary’s Church,
Ballyheigue. Requiem Mass was on Wednesday in St. Mary’s Church with
burial afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ballyheigue. May she rest in
peace. Pre-deceased by her husband Tomeen and sadly missed by her loving
family: Son Padraig, daughter-in-law Kathryn, grandchildren: Danny and
Becky; brothers Noel and Brendan and Pre-deceased by her brother John Joe;
sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

KERRY HOSPICE FOUNDATION: The annual Good Friday Walk will take place on
Friday 14th April, starting at 11.00am from the Castle Gate. Sponsorship

COURSING LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn on Monday 27th March in
the Ballyheigue & District Coursing Club Lotto: 8-9-15-21 Jackpot was not
won. The €50 winner was Martina Long, C/o Macs. The €25 winners were:
