BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – 3rd February 2016
GRANDPARENTS DAY: As part of Catholic Schools Week all grandparents are
invited to Glenderry and Bouleenshere schools for a Prayer Service this
coming Wednesday 3rd February; Glenderry at 11.15am and Bouleenshere at
1.00pm. The bond between children and grandparents is very strong and
grandparents do a lot in handing on the faith to these children.
DEATH: The death took place during the week of John Dineen, Main Street,
Ballyheigue. Removal was from Gleasures Funeral Home on Tuesday 26th
January to St. Mary’s Church, Ballyheigue. Requiem Mass on Wednesday
followed by Internment in the Holy Family Cemetery, Ballyheigue R.I.P.
Sympathy is extended to his daughters Una and Lilly, sons Michael and Paul,
brother Connor, sisters Mary and Monica. His grandchildren, sons-in-law,
daughter-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
GAA LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn at last Sunday’s GAA Lotto:
5-8-26-27. The Jackpot of €2,600 was not won. Next week’s Jackpot will be
€2,650. The two €50 winners were: Mary Jane Reidy, Tiershanahan and Ann
O’Halloran, Buncurrig. The €25 winner was Jim Cantillon, Causeway.
GAA DRAW: The Ballyheigue GAA Club is running a fundraising draw for a load
of Timber logs or one tonne of coal. Tickets €3 or two for €5. Please
GAA MEMBERSHIP: Child under 10 years €20. Youths from 11 to 18 years of age
fee €30. One adult and children fee €80. Two adults and children fee
€100. Senior Members fee €50. OAP’s fee €20. For an additional €50 on any
of the above membership fee it will entitle you to two Lotto tickets weekly
for the year.
GAA SOCIAL: The Ballyheigue GAA Social will take place on Saturday 27th
February in the White Sands Hotel. Tickets available from Club Officers.
COMMUNITY GAMES: U-13 Indoor Soccer in Duagh next Sunday 7th Feb. Eric
Walsh, David 0’Sullivan, Dara Kearney, Denis Lynch, Felim O’Sullivan,
Muiris Harty, Daniel Loughlin and Dylan Casey will represent us. We wish
them all the best.

COURSING LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn on Monday 25th January in
the Ballyheigue & District Coursing Club Lotto: 12-14-20-24. Jackpot was
not won. The €50 winner was Dylan O’Mahony, C/o Macs. The €25 winners
were Jonathan Best, Diamuid Slattery and Edel O’Leary, C/o Christina. Next
week’s Jackpot E 3,250.
CAMOGIE CLUB: Camogie training for girls born 2002 to 2005 in the Astro
Turf Causeway every Tuesday starting the 2nd of February from 6pm to 7pm.
Cost €2. Bring Hurley and helmet if you have them (we will provide them if
needed). This is open to girls from any parish (there is no parish rule in
Camogie unlike hurling). This is a great way to make new friends while
learning a new sport. Parents are very welcome to stay for the hour and

BADMINTON: We held our annual Badminton tournament last Sunday in the
Community Centre. There was eight hours of play with players travelling
from all over the county. After many close games all day the club was well
represented in the Finals.
RESULTS: Linda Bourke won the Division Four mixed, where Patsy O’Connor was
runner up. Lilian Holmes was runner up in Division Five plate and Kevin
O’Mahoney was runner up in the Division Four plate.
Tim Griffin was runner up in the Division Three mixed final. Many thanks to
everyone who prepared the hall, painted lines etc. and with the new
lighting in place we now have one of the best halls in the county for
playing badminton. A big thank you also to everyone who contributed to the
event: Organizers on the top table, umpires and score keepers etc. Also to
everyone who catered for teas, coffees, sandwiches and cakes. Their
valuable time was appreciated. Everyone went home well fed and content.
