Ballyheigue Tidy Towns
Ballyheigue Tidy Towns works to improve and maintain the appearance of Ballyheigue and its environs by organising clean ups and amenity projects in the area. We also maintain the
communal areas of the village. We are a voluntary, non profit group.
The Tidy Towns group has a remit to improve the amenities and visual appearance of the community. We liaise with the local businesses and community groups. We also meet with the Municipal District
Officer and Council representative on a regular basis. Ballyheigue is a popular seaside resort and there is an onus on the community to maintain the appearance of the town and its surroundings.
We enter the Tidy Towns competition annually with a view to improving our score by acting on feedback from the Tidy Towns adjudicators together woth local input from the Tidy Towns
Committee. This includes planting and infrastructure (stone wall, flowers beds, wall climbers, planters,
biodiversity area development, beach and village clean up and much more.
The community as a whole will benefit with the improvements to the village and it surroundings. This help foster a sense of pride in the community and improve the quality of life
for local residents and visitors alike.
Ballyheigue Tidy Towns would like to acknowledge and thank the Department of Rural and Community Development, Kerry County Council, KCC Environment Section and the Community Support Fund and the Local Enhancement Program for their continued support and funding.
This year we were allocated funding of1000 from the Community Enhancement Program and 1000 from the Local Enhancement Program. We have also applied for Adopt a Road and Adopt a bottle Bank Grants. Thanks to Mick Harkin and Marion Godley for their funding efforts.
This funding is essential to the Tidy Towns in particular for the maintenance and running of machinery as well as for the implementation of new projects.
We would also like to thank the Half on the Head for working with the Mens Shed to provide swift boxes and also for the purchase and placement of wild flowers in designated areas.
